Julianne Clina is a PhD student In the Department of Nutrition Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Originally from Westford, Massachusetts, Julianne moved to Tennessee to complete her bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences in 2019 from Lee University before moving to Birmingham to pursue her Master’s and PhD in Nutrition Sciences. Having been an attendant caregiver for individuals with severe disabilities during her undergraduate degree, Julianne noticed a great need for nutrition focused research with this population to help them achieve and maintain optimal body composition and improve quality of life. During her Master’s degree, Julianne was able to investigate state level differences in response to a behavioral weight loss program. This research earned her the Howerde E. Sauberlich Award for Excellence in Nutrition Sciences Research in 2021. Now working with Dr. Jim Hill at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Julianne is working on adapting behavioral interventions for individuals with disabilities.
