SUNY Downstate College of Medicine
Joya Ahmad is a first-year medical student at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn NY. Her research interests center on social determinants of health and health equity, including but not limited to food insecurity, racial health disparities, and intimate partner violence. She has been a emergency room crisis counselor for several years and has also worked with street outreach teams providing care to people experiencing homelessness, and through that work has become familiar with the impact of food insecurity on health outcomes.
