Sally is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Nutritionist, specialising in gastroenterology, and pre and post-surgical nutrition. Sally is currently undertaking a PhD in the Faculty of Health at Queensland University of Technology, leading research investigating the impact of preoperative dietary interventions to optimise obesity prior to elective surgery. Sally has received multiple awards for her research and presentations, including prize for first place oral presentation at Evidence Based Perioperative Medicine (EBPOM) conference in Chicago in 2020. Sally is the leading expert in Australia on the use of a Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) to optimise obese patients for elective, non-bariatric surgery, after designing and implementing a successful Australian-first dietitian-led model of care, and has established a state-wide working group to support implementation of this novel intervention in Queensland Health hospitals.
