Karen W. Andrews manages the Dietary Supplement Ingredient Database (DSID) research program at the Methods and Application of Food Composition Laboratory (MAFCL), Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center, US Department of Agriculture. She worked as an analytical chemist for Texaco, Inc. and W.R. Grace & Co and the Food Composition Laboratory, USDA before joining MAFCL. In 2003, she initiated the research program for the DSID (https://dsid.usda.nih.gov), an analytically validated database of dietary supplement ingredient information. Version 4 of the DSID was released in 2017 with national estimates of ingredient content for multivitamin and omega-3 fatty acid dietary supplements. Karen received her B.S. in Chemistry from Penn State and is an author or co-author of over 20 peer reviewed articles. She is a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Society for Nutrition and AOAC, Intl.
