Ph.D. Graduate Student
Texas A&M University, College Station
I am a 1st year Ph.D. student in the Department of Nutrition at Texas A&M University, College Station. My research topic focuses on evidence-based practice (EBP) in the field of nutrition. I completed MS in Medical Nutrition Therapy from Saint Louis University, Missouri in 2020 and MSc in Food and Nutrition from the College of Home Economics, Bangladesh in 2013. Before coming to Texas, I was working as a Nutritionist in Pennsylvania. During that time, I discovered the field of EBP and began to realize that my previous training in nutrition did not emphasize the methods and philosophy of contemporary EBP that is being practiced in medicine and nursing. I found an opportunity to get involved with EBP research at TAMU and eventually got engaged with five systematic review projects that are focusing on EBP in nutrition. Two of these projects are being presented at the ASN 2022 conference. Others include an update of a Cochrane systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) evaluating probiotics for the prevention of Clostridium difficile infection, systematic reviews of RCTs evaluating the impact of i) polyunsaturated fatty acids and ii) monounsaturated fatty acids on patient-important outcomes (e.g., mortality, stroke, quality of life). I am also a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Texas A&M and teach a critical appraisal course to undergraduate students.
