Graduate Teaching Assistant
Florida International University
Alexandra Briceno is a third-year doctoral student in the field of Dietetics and Nutrition at Florida International University. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, and migrating to the United States at a young age, Alexandra developed a passion over the years to further her education to positively impact the health of other immigrants like herself. Through academic excellence and dedication, Alexandra has received the C.V. Starr Scholarship for two consecutive academic years.
Currently, Briceno is focusing her work on the study of gut microbial diversity and possible associations with psychological symptoms, sleep quality, and special diets among emerging adults of LatinX backgrounds. Her hope is to pave the way for future studies that will improve dietary recommendations for individuals at risk, in doing so addressing health disparities in the LatinX/Hispanic communities.
