Biosketch
After completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics at the University of Nevada-Reno Dr. Jimi Francis taught Middle and High School students Life Skills. She went on to complete a Master of Science degree at the University of Nevada in Reno with a focus on infant nutrition. She then went on to complete a Doctoral degree in Nutrition at the University of California in Davis with major professor Dr. K. G. Dewey. Jimi completed her Dietetic Internship at the University of Iowa with a Fellowship at the 96th Medical Group at Eglin Air Force Base. Currently, Dr. Francis is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio in the Department of Kinesiology in the College for Health, Community, and Policy Human Performance Cluster conducting laboratory and clinical research. She continues to practice as a Lactation Consultant doing community assessment and serves as a trainer for the Texas State Department of Health Services Advanced Lactation Management Training for health care practitioners. Dr. Francis is interested in how hypertensive disorders of pregnancy impact lactation. Currently, much of her research is focused on developing a better understanding of the etiology of hypertensive disorders during pregnancy.
