Cara Pannell is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and current graduate student in the Master of Human Nutrition Program at The Ohio State University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Science at The Ohio State University. Cara’s campus involvement has included serving as an Environment and Natural Resource Scholar, 3-year executive board member for The Ohio State University’s chapter of the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students, Wolfe Scholar, and USDA Multi-Cultural Scholar. While at The Ohio State University, her research involvement has included presenting at the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum and being an Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program Participant. She continues to conduct research as a member of Dr. Carolyn Gunther’s laboratory, focusing on using a family mealtime intervention to combat high rates of childhood obesity in low-income and racial minorities in the Head Start population. In addition to her role as a researcher, Cara serves as a preceptor for the interns in the dietitian program involved in the family mealtime intervention. In the future, Cara aspires to use her interdisciplinary skills as a way to integrate nutrition interventions into daily medical treatment.
