Doctoral Candidate, Anthropology
Emory University
Caroline Owens is a doctoral candidate in anthropology at Emory University with nearly ten years of experience working with food-systems-based nonprofits across the southeast. Her dissertation research examines how individuals living with food insecurity cope with and manage diet-related chronic diseases in the Southeastern United States. As part of this work, she also explores how various “Food as Medicine” programs, including produce prescriptions, can be employed to break cycles of poverty, resource insecurity, and health inequity.
