Dr. Venkatesh Bellamkonda, or Venk as he prefers to be called, is an emergency physician in Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he also serves as chair of education for the department. He has taught across the globe and received many awards and recognitions for his teaching including Mayo Clinic Residents and Fellows Teacher of the Year award in the past.
In addition to his interests in education, Venk has completed an emergency ultrasound fellowship and is an active part of the division of emergency ultrasound at Mayo Clinic. He has served as director of emergency ultrasound previously, and has led many educational courses on point-of-care ultrasound. He currently directs courses in ultrasound for senior level residents, medical students, and staff level professionals.
His third area of passion is in advancing healthcare quality. He has achieved Gold Level certification in healthcare quality from the Mayo Clinic Quality Academy (similar to black belt certification). He has developed courses on healthcare quality which are being used for over 60,000 learners, as well as smaller packages for specific trainee groups. He has led and completed many initiatives to improve specific health quality aspects of emergency care. In addition, he has served as Chair of the section of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety for the American College of Emergency Physicians. He is particularly interested in assessing the voice of the customer, and the application of LEAN, Six Sigma methods to improve upon identified gaps.
