Dr. Martin F Casey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a junior clinician-researcher with an interest in improving evidence-based adherence to prescribing for opioid use disorder as well as preventing potentially inappropriate drug use in multimorbid adults in the emergency department. He currently serves as a Site Principle Investigator on a National Institute on Drug Abuse-funded trial entitled, “Pragmatic Trial of User-centered Clinical Decision Support to Implement EMergency Department-initiated BuprenorphinE for Opioid Use Disorder.” This study aims to understand how the integration of a clinical decision support instrument within the electronic health record can help clinicians initiate suboxone treatment for opioid use disorder in the emergency department. He also received some funding from the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine Foundation to examine pharmacoepidemiologic patterns in use of albuterol in patients with co-occurring heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
