Dr. Madsen, MD, ScM is an emergency medicine physician and early career investigator dedicated to the study of sex and gender in disease with a focus on stroke. Dr. Madsen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Rhode Island Hospital. She completed a research fellowship in the Division of Sex and Gender in Emergency Medicine within the Department of Emergency Medicine at Rhode Island Hospital and the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and a Master’s Degree in Clinical and Translational Research at the Brown University School of Public Health. She has published on topics including sex differences in stroke epidemiology and outcomes as well as ED management of stroke. She is currently funded by a K23 award from NHLBI as well as a research grant from the Patterson foundation. She is the Stroke Director in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Brown University and the Associate Medical Director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.
