Gwen Jacobsohn is a Scientist with the Aging Research Group and Research Services Core in the UW-Madison BerbeeWalsh Dept. of Emergency Medicine. She holds a Masters’ in Organizational/Small Group Communication and a PhD in Health Communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and was a Primary Care Research Fellow in the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health at UW-Madison. She has conducted mixed-methods stakeholder-engaged studies in specialty, primary, and acute care environments, involving adolescent and adult patients, family caregivers, healthcare providers, healthcare administrators, and community members. Her current focus is on the design, implementation, and evaluation of interventions to improve support for older adult patients and their caregivers during and following ED visits. Her qualitative data collection approaches include individual/group interviews, focus groups, surveys, and medical record abstraction; analyzed using techniques such as content analysis, thematic analysis, structural, evaluative, and hypothesis coding, and natural language processing.
