Silas W. Smith, MD, FACEP, FACMT is the JoAnn G. and Kenneth Wellner Clinical Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at NYU Langone Health’s Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine, where he leads the department’s Division on Quality, Safety, and Practice Innovation. He is an Affiliate Faculty Member of NYULH's Institute for Innovations in Medical Education. He directs the Kenneth and JoAnn G. Wellner fellowship in emergency department safety and quality. He also serves as the Associate Director for the fellowship in medical toxicology at NYU and the New York City Poison Control Center and as core faculty for the Healthcare Leadership and Operations (HCLO) Fellowship. He practices emergency medicine and medical toxicology at NYU Langone Health and NYC Health+Hospitals/Bellevue.
After graduating from The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Dr. Smith completed emergency medicine residency and medical toxicology fellowship following service as a naval flight surgeon. He subsequently trained as an American Hospital Association-National Patient Safety Foundation Patient Safety Leadership Fellow. Since joining NYULH’s faculty in 2008, he has collaborated on federally funded research projects from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and the National Institutes of Health. He continues to teach undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education in emergency medicine, toxicology, pharmacology, disaster management, quality, and safety.
