Dr. Pettit practices at Indiana University, within the Department of Emergency Medicine. Under the mentorship of Dr. Jeffrey Kline, Dr. Pettit is investigating the utilization of the ED for patients with cancer and those at risk of cancer. Furthermore, he has identified a niche within those patients that present emergently with undiagnosed cancer. He is investigating on why, especially among the vulnerable, underserved populations is cancer so frequently discovered during an ED visit. Within this, he is looking at improving the transitions of care for these, and all cancer patients, whom frequently utilize the ED for emergent and urgent care. Lastly, Dr. Pettit is interested in exploiting the ED visit as a novel location to address cancer prevention and control with regards to improving access and uptake of cancer screenings and cancer prevention.
