Isabel A. Barata, MS, MD, MBA, FACP, FAAP, FACEP is Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/ Northwell. Dr. Barata is the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Service Line Quality Director a joint position of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics Service Line; in addition to being the Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at North Shore University Hospital. Her current role is to enhance the day-to-day pediatric readiness of emergency departments (EDs) across the Northwell Health System, improve pediatric patient safety in the ED, elevate the needs of children to the healthcare system level, and foster the relationships among the emergency departments and the children’s hospital.
She has dedicated her career to improving the care of children in the emergency department through research (recent projects include the use and dissemination of Clinical Decision Supporting in the emergency department to Improve Detection, Evaluation and Reporting of child abuse), committee participation, and speaking engagements at the local, regional, national, and international level. She has been recognized with national and state awards for the commitment to improve the care of children in the emergency department.
