Dr. Chadwick (Chad) Miller is Professor and Chair of Emergency Medicine at Wake Forest School of Medicine, and Enterprise Leader for the Emergency Medicine Service Line at Atrium Health. In these roles, Dr. Miller leads teams to meet the academic, clinical, and administrative missions related to emergency care. Together these teams are pursuing a vision to be the national leaders in emergency medicine as they train tomorrow’s providers, discover new treatments, and provide exceptional emergency care. The clinical mission spans more than 1 million patient encounters annually across 3 states. As a clinician-scientist, Dr. Miller’s research advances care for patients with cardiovascular emergencies and critical illness. He co-directs the Critical Illness, Injury, and Recovery Research Center (CIIRRC), co-directs the Southeastern Clinical Center for the NIH funded PETAL Network, and collaborates on a portfolio of investigations testing new methods to evaluate patients with chest pain presenting to the Emergency Department. At Atrium Health Wake Forest, Dr. Miller also leads the Clinical Operations Committee of the Wake Forest University Group Practice and the Operational Excellence Committee for the region.
Dr. Miller graduated from Youngstown State University and Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine through a combined BS/MD program. He completed emergency medicine residency training in 2003 at The Ohio State University and served as a chief resident. Since 2003, Dr. Miller has worked for the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine. He received his Master of Science degree with a major in Clinical and Population Translational Sciences at Wake Forest University in 2009, and has served in several leadership roles in the Department prior to being named Chair, including Assistant Residency Director, Director of Clinical Research, and Executive Vice Chair. He is passionate about delivering the best emergency care in the world to local communities and is honored to work with remarkable teams of dedicated professionals.
