Dr. Faheem Guirgis MD is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at University of Florida, Jacksonville, has formal research training in biostatistics and clinical trial design, and has been the PI on 3 prospective clinical research studies in patients with severe sepsis or septic shock. He was the recipient of the American College of Emergency Physicians Young Investigator Award in 2013 and has received institutional awards for excellence in teaching and research. Dr. Guirgis’ current research studies seek to understand the role of cholesterol in mediating organ dysfunction in sepsis as well as their role in prediction of chronic critical illness after sepsis. They are funded by a Society of Critical Care Medicine-Weil (Vision) Grant awarded in 2015 (http://www.sccm.org/Research/grants/Pages/SCCM-Weil-Research-Grant-Recipients.aspx), a KL2 through the National Center for Advancing Translational Science (KL2 TR001429), and most recently a K23 (GM115690-01A1) from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences.
