Marianne Gausche-Hill, MD, FACEP, FAAP, FAEMS
Dr. Gausche-Hill is the Medical Director for Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency, Professor of Clinical Medicine and Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and is Clinical Faculty at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. She is nationally and internationally known for her work as an EMS researcher and educator, and for her leadership in the field of EMS and pediatric emergency medicine. She is best known for her study of pre-hospital airway management for children published in JAMA 2000 and her work on the National Pediatric Readiness Project published in JAMA- Pediatrics in 2015. She was one of the three developers of the first national curriculum for paramedics in pediatric emergency care entitled “Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals” (PEPP Course), which has educated over 400,000 EMS providers in the United States and abroad. She was a member of the Institute of Medicine Committees (Main and Pediatric) for the Future of Emergency Care in the United States Health Care System which helped frame recommendations for congress and other federal agencies for emergency care in the United States, and was a member of the EMS Agenda 2050 Technical Expert Panel which provided a vision for the future of prehospital care in the United States.
She has won numerous national awards for her leadership in emergency medicine, pediatric emergency medicine and EMS including the following: In 2004 she was awarded the National Education Award in Emergency Medicine by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), in 2005 was awarded the Martha Bushore-Fallis APLS award from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), in 2007 was awarded the “Emergency Medical Services for Children Heroes Award for Lifetime Achievement” by the Health Resources and Services Administration, The Federal EMS for Children Program, in 2008 was named one of the “Heroes of Emergency Medicine” by ACEP, in 2012 was awarded the Steve Miller Education and Mentorship Award by the AAP, in 2013 was awarded Woman of the Year by the National Association of Professional Women, and the Distinguished Service in EMS Medal by the State of California, in 2014 was awarded the Outstanding Contribution in EMS award as well as the Speaker of the Year Award by ACEP, in 2016 was awarded the PEMSOFT/EBSCO Award by ACEP for her work in building the evidence base in pediatric emergency medicine, and in 2018 was awarded the Faculty Teaching Award named in her honor by the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine Pediatric Interest Group.
Dr. Gausche Hill has over 300 peer-reviewed publications, textbook chapters, reviews and abstracts to her credit, as well as well over 1000 invited lectures regionally, nationally and internationally.
Dr. Gausche-Hill currently serves as one of three senior editors for the acclaimed textbook, Rosen’s Emergency Medicine: Concepts and Clinical Practice, and serves on the American Board of Emergency Medicine Board of Directors.
