Worked at Texas Instruments/Raytheon/Tyco from 1973 to 2002 in the Chemical process area for printed circuit boards and waste treatment for waste chemical for the defense industry.
Assisted in startup one of the 1st chemical spill response groups in the Austin Texas area for industry in 1983 (Texas Instruments).
Volunteered in Cedar Park fire department for 15 years (1986 to 2001) and worked up to Assistant Chief. Obtained Advanced Certification for the Texas State Fireman and Fire Marshal Association. Transitioned to Advanced Structural Fire Fighter with Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
Started up the Williamson County Haz Mat response team in 1998 as a volunteer and transitioned to the first paid Chief in Williamson County in 2003.
Worked with Austin Fire, Travis County Haz Mat (who is now covered by Austin Fire), San Marcos Haz Mat, Austin Travis County EMS, Austin Bomb squad, Austin Health and State health to create a working group that meets every month to standardize Haz Mat responses and protocols. We conduct regional full-scale exercises that involve this group as well as the 6th Civil Support team to prepare for a terrorist event.
Worked with the CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive) Enhanced Forced Protection Group (CERFP) from the Texas National Guard on how to conduct search, rescue, body recovery and Mass Decon in a terrorist response that involves a CBRNE event.
Built to Coordinate/Provide an 80-hour NFPA Hazardous Materials Technician classes 2 times a year (since 2005) for the Austin Haz Mat, Travis County Haz Mat, and San Marcos Haz Mat, Williamson County Haz Mat, and Capital Area Planning Council of Government (CAPCOG) area.
Built and taught a 40-hour class for Haz Mat Branch Directors for them to understand their full responsibilities when they are the lead of a Haz Mat call.
Chaired the Regional Standardization of Equipment and Training (ReSET)- This group identifies the needs of training for Special Operations in the Fire Service and work with the local leaders to create a Standardized (NFPA-OSHA Accepted) classes for the CAPCOG region.
