Devyani Lal, M.D. is Professor of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery and Chair, Division of Rhinology, Mayo Clinic in Arizona. Dr. Lal is Dean of Education, Mayo Clinic in Arizona. Dr. Lal was recently recognized by her peers as the 2019 Charles H. Mayo Distinguished Mayo Clinician. She has a joint appointment in Neurological Surgery and serves on the Outpatients Practices Committee and the Diversity Subcommittee of Mayo Clinic in Arizona.
Her specialty interests include surgical management of inflammatory and neoplastic conditions of the sinonasal cavity and cranial base. Dr. Lal has over 100 scientific publications (articles, chapters, digital) in the field of Rhinology-Cranial Base Surgery. She is lead author and co-editor of the book, “Frontal Sinus Surgery” (Springer). She has authored the chapter on “Primary Sinus Surgery” for several editions of Cumming’s Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery, the flagship textbook in ENT. Dr. Lal served as a member of the Executive Board of the American Rhinologic Society. Dr. Lal is a Consultant to the Rhinology and Allergy Education Committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) and a member of the Continuing Medical Education Committee of the American Rhinologic Society. A passionate educator, she has been director of nine international courses held at Mayo Clinic course. She serves on the editorial board of the “International Forum for Allergy and Rhinology” flagship journal of the American Rhinologic Society. Amongst other journals, she is a reviewer for the Laryngoscope, International Forum for Allergy and Rhinology, Allergy & Rhinology, Neurosurgery and Operative Neurosurgery journals. Dr. Lal’s current translational research project investigates the microbiome in chronic rhinosinusitis. She has a particular interest in health-related disparities based on gender, race and socio-economic status.
