David Hom, MD, is a board-certified head and neck surgeon who helps improve abnormalities and functional defects of the face caused by injuries and skin cancer. His expertise includes treating facial (skin and bone) deformities, as well as Mohs skin cancer reconstruction. He also specializes in improving nasal breathing problems, nasal fractures and nasal obstruction.
Dr. Hom is medical director of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest. As a professor in the Department of Surgery at UC San Diego School of Medicine, His research on how growth factors can improve soft tissue wound healing has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Dr. Hom completed a fellowship with the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and he did residencies in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at University of Michigan and in surgery at UC Irvine.
He earned his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine. He is board certified both in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery and in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Hom has published over 100 articles and book chapters. He has edited several books on treating facial scars, improving wound healing, and doing facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.
