Michael Hoa, MD, is an associate professor and a board-certified neurotologist and otolaryngologist in the Department of Otolaryngology at Georgetown University School of Medicine. In addition to his duties as a neurotologist, Dr. Hoa is a surgeon-scientist in the intramural research program at the National Institute for Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) where his clinical and basic science research program is focused on deepening our understanding of hearing instability disorders, including Meniere's disease, AIED, and SSNHL, and identifying novel therapeutics to restore hearing in the adult inner ear via a variety of different avenues including repurposable therapeutics, small molecules, gene therapy and regeneration. Dr. Hoa is the recently appointed director of the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Cochlear Implant Program which provides comprehensive cochlear implant services to both pediatric and adult populations and also serves as the director of the Washington DC VAMC Cochlear Implant Program. Dr. Hoa currently serves as the Chair of the Research Committee of the American Cochlear Implant Alliance. Dr. Hoa's other interests include endoscopic ear surgery and genetic and functional underpinnings of poor cochlear implant performance.
