Brenda Gisela Hernández Ramírez holds a law degree from the Escuela de Libre Derecho and a Master’s degree in International Law from the University of Bologna in Italy.
She was appointed Commissioner of the Federal Economic Competition Commission (COFECE) by the Mexican Senate for the period of 2016 to 2025. As of September 20, 2021, she took over the position of Acting Chair Commissioner, in terms of article 19 of the Federal Economic Competition Commission, a position she will hold until the Federal Executive appoints a new Chair Commissioner.
Brenda has extensive experience in economic competition matters. From 2000 to 2008 she held several positions within the extinct Federal Competition Commission (CFC), mainly in the General Directorate of Legal Affairs, and from 2008 to 2013 she was an advisor at the Board of Commissioners. In 2014 she worked as Deputy General Director in the Economic Competition Unit of the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) and, as of that same year until 2016 she was General Director of the Coordination Office of the Investigative Authority of COFECE.
In the academic field, she has taught Administrative Law and Economic Competition Law at undergraduate, specialized diploma, and master’s level at prominent academic institutions such as the Escuela de Libre Derecho, the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económica, the Universidad Panamericana, as well as the Escuela Libre de Derecho de Monterrey.
