Katayoon Kathy Ghomeshi is a Medication Safety Officer at UCSF Health and an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF School of Pharmacy.
Dr. Ghomeshi holds dual board certification as a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and Certified Professional in Patient Safety. Dr. Ghomeshi is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, and she completed a post-graduate residency in Managed Care Pharmacy at Kaiser Foundation Hospitals/Kaiser Permanente. She continued on to a post-graduate specialty residency in Medication-Use Safety at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, during which time she trained at the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), the Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality, as well as the Maryland Patient Safety Center.
Dr. Ghomeshi serves as Director on the Board for the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists (CSHP), appointed member and Past Chair of the ASHP Section of Inpatient Care Practioners' Advisory Group on Medication Safety, and appointed member of the California Hospital Association Medication Safety Committee. She is also an appointed Specialty Council member for the Board of Pharmacy Specialties.
Dr. Ghomeshi's professional interests include patient safety, evaluating medication-use system design and human factors, fostering a culture of safety, interdisciplinary collaboration, and developing effective risk reduction strategies to improve the safety of medication use.
