Merrill D. Peterson Professor of Landscape Architecture
University of Virginia School of Architecture
Charlottesville, Virginia
Since Elizabeth Meyer’s graduate studies in landscape architecture and historic preservation, she has been fascinated by the thick description of landscapes—places replete with cultural memories and biophysical processes. This perspective has afforded her opportunities to research, interpret, plan and design significant projects. Meyer founded the UVA Center for Cultural Landscapes, a collaborative hub for scholars/practitioners seeking to create new models for cultural landscape research, interpretation, preservation and adaptive use. Meyer was a member of The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts from 2012–2021 and Vice Chairman 2017–2021. In 2020, Meyer was awarded the Vincent Scully prize from the National Building Museum.
