Once a landfill on the San Francisco Bay, the Albany Bulb is now a beloved public landscape of rubble, guerrilla art, thickets, and wetlands serving an amalgam of users, ecologies and infrastructures. Explore its unique beauty, its challenges, and the role designers can play in the evolution of similar urban wilds.

Learning Outcomes:

Learn about grassroots responses and uses of urban wilds, as well as the opportunities to invite diverse users to participate in those spaces.
Discuss the role of the designer in transforming our informal wild spaces to adapt to the evolution of uses and environmental pressures over time.
Gain insight into how a landscape can accommodate the divergent needs of ecological restoration, recreation, and cultural expression.
Discuss urban-wild tools and frameworks that can inform the design of other parks and open spaces.
