The Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) South Garden Projects reinvigorate a century-old institution, amplifying the central watercourse ecology, expanding plant collection experience, and completely reinventing the Discovery Garden's educational programming. Innovative infrastructure design, funded through grants, allows BBG to draw less water and reduce discharge, conserving over 20 million gallons of water a year.

Learning Outcomes:

Sustainable performance of historic landscapes can be dramatically improved while also preserving their mission and experience.
When managing urban water infrastructure, improving water quality and reducing inputs into municipal stormwater systems are just as important as conservation and reducing water use.
Innovative infrastructure and ambitious sustainability goals can open funding opportunities that are not otherwise available.
Improving access to experientially engaging landscapes in urban settings provides an educational opportunity for enhancing community stewardship of the environment.
