This session unpacks three unique models for landscape designers engaging in community land stewardship outside of public or private development projects. In this session, we dive into the strategies and processes for designing ongoing stewardship in partnership with communities in Richmond, Virginia, Detroit, Michigan, and Los Angeles, California.

Learning Outcomes:

Understand three different models for engaging community land stewardship as a landscape architect.
Explore the benefits, limitations, and considerations of designing for different temporal scales, outside the scope of conventional landscape construction projects.
Identify strategies and principles for engaging different communities in an equitable and thoughtful way that accounts for historic and contemporary injustices.
Discuss implications and possibilities of community land stewardship as a bigger part of the landscape architecture field.
