The power of big data is largely unharnessed and can be considered outside landscape architecture’s realm of expertise. However, big data has the potential to build more equitable and sustainable communities in a meaningful way. This presentation aims to uncover how to utilize big data, whether as a novice or researcher.

Learning Outcomes:

Discover the basics of big data- what it is, where to find it, how its being used, how to access it, its limitations and challenges.
Review strategies and tools for how to utilize big data to promote more sustainable, equitable and resilient communities for projects of various scales- from site design to district planning.
Discuss the landscape architect and planner's role in the digital infrastructure space, whether it be consumer, creator, gatherer, analyzer, miner or provider.
Explore what to expect in the future of the profession as it relates to big data, smart/ future cities, and data augmented design.
