How are new parks within old cities different, and what makes them important? The session will explore the ways these parks can contrast yet complement their contexts, strike new social and cultural constructs, and respond to ecological and infrastructural needs.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Learn how design of new parks within old cities can respect historical context yet transform the urban fabric to create remarkable new landscapes and destinations that will touch people.
2. Learn how new parks within old cities can uniquely address pressing issues of today – sustainability, inequity and aging infrastructure. How landscape architects can lead these initiatives.
3. Explore how public outreach can go beyond the typical to reach a highly diverse cross section of people, and achieve meaningful engagement, more than just the obligatory.
4. Hear case studies for how feasibility enactment of planning, government policies, and philanthropic and foundation participation can make these projects happen.
