This session is developed by, and presenters invited by, Adult Swallowing: Normal and Disordered. The videofluoroscopic swallow evaluation or modified barium swallow study is a robust diagnostic tool for dysphagia. To harness the potential of the MBS, clinicians must look beyond aspiration and the fear of aspiration to consider swallowing safety, efficiency, physiology and timing. This course will discuss and score the same MBS using three validated measurement tools – DIGEST™, MBSImP, and ASPEKT-C to emphasize how their methods can fit together to help clinicians understand the bigger picture of swallowing impairment.

Learning Objectives:

Identify domains of swallow measurement complementing swallow safety.
Distinguish measures of swallowing safety, efficiency, physiology, and timing.
Match validated measures to the appropriate measurement domain.
