2103V - Supporting Children and Families with Multiple Disabilities in Early Intervention

The term “Deaf plus” is used to describe children with hearing loss and additional disability(ies), such as cerebral palsy, vision loss, or learning disabilities, a category which encompasses slightly less than half the population of children with hearing loss. With such a significant number, it is essential that those working in early intervention are knowledgeable in a variety of strategies to support each individual child and family. This presentation will provide participants with ideas for supporting the families on their caseloads. Presenters will discuss multidisciplinary collaboration and best practices for working with children who are “Deaf plus.” Approaches to parent counseling, session planning, innovative technology and navigating the transition from early intervention to preschool will be shared as well.
