2097V - Using Systemic Approaches to Support the Relationships of People with Aphasia and Other Communication Difficulties

This session is developed by, and presenters invited by, Language Disorders in Adults. Kate Meredith is a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist with 15 years of experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist and SLT manager in adult neurorehabilitation and community services. In this session, she will outline some key concepts from systemic theory and practice, and how they may be usefully considered when working with people with aphasia and other communication disorders to support their relationships. She will explore the skills that speech-language pathologists have to help their clients with these important issues and reflect on the dilemmas that can arise regarding remit and specialisms.
