2146V - Fostering Resiliency Through a Personal Narrative Multimedia Approach

Resilience enables one to handle problems. Problems give rise to thoughts and feelings which drive a plan. Working through a problem with or without the hoped-for resolution builds resilience. The personal narrative provides the framework for children to reflect on their feelings and thoughts, problem solve and evaluate outcomes. The presenters will share a system using the metacognitive approach, Story Grammar Marker® with the engaging graphic novel, El Deafo by Cece Bell. A multimedia text set approach for developing background knowledge of resilience will be presented. The interconnected SEL competencies of self-awareness, self-management and responsible decision making will be interwoven through the intervention tasks.
