"Consumerism" in higher education refers to the perception that, because students have paid for their education, they are customers who are entitled to be satisfied and served by faculty. This session discusses the pitfalls of consumerist attitudes toward higher education and reports the results of a survey of speech-language pathology graduate students, faculty members, and practicing clinicians on consumerist attitudes toward speech-language pathology graduate education. As a field, we need to determine who is the ultimate consumer of speech-language pathology graduate education: the students or their future patients/clients/students.
