5505V - Integrated High-Fidelity and Student Directed Remote Simulations in Dysphagia Intervention on Student Satisfaction and Self-Confidence

Simulation-based learning methods have benefits on replication of real-life clinical scenarios and consistent experience to specific clinical learning objectives in a safe and stress-free environment which improves the learner’s confidence and comfort levels. High fidelity(HF) simulations are commonly used in nursing education programs to teach interventions. There is a limitation in terms of navigation from the learner’s side. Integration of HF with student-directed remote simulation(SDRS) labs were created to reduce the physical contact and effectively learn clinical swallow evaluation. The HF-SDRS labs offer more freedom to navigate back and forth in the simulation along with virtual live encounters with standard patients. Analysis of pre- and post-evaluation surveys indicated a significant difference in student preparedness with interprofessional dysphagia evaluation.
