Speech-Language Pathologists are both a critical and integral part of the interdisciplinary team. Active participation and engagement in the IDT can result in the development of more comprehensive and effective care plans, improved outcomes, and increased patient/resident satisfaction. Here, we will focus on defining the role of the SLP in the LTC/SNF setting, identify steps to actively participate in the IDT, and review methods of evaluating the effectiveness of SLP participation in the IDT in assisting in meeting patient needs related to cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders.
