This session is developed by, and presenters invited by, SIG 6: Hearing and Balance Sciences: Research and Clinical Applications. This one hour invited session presents an overview and discussion of the assessment of postural stability using a new analysis paradigm that can potentially improve diagnosis of balance disfunction and fall risk using data from healthy adults and a cohort with TBI.

Learning Objectives:

Examine limitations of the current method of assessing postural stability
Show how a new analysis paradigm integrating limits of stability into the sensory organization test can provide a more accurate reflection of postural stability
Discuss the clinical relevance of these findings as it pertains to the prediction of fall risk, particularly in balance disordered populations
