This session is developed by, and presenters invited by, Acquired Cognitive Communication Disorders. People with brain injury often report a desire to meet others either socially or romantically after their injury. This session will explore the social and romantic relationships people with brain injury form after their injury and how SLTs may help to facilitate these relationships. We will explore the social relationships formed through group work (including project-based intervention) and peer befriending and discuss outcomes to measure progress. We will explore the SLT role in helping a person with brain injury develop the social skills needed to develop romantic relationships starting from the first date.
Learning Objectives:
Describe several approaches that can be used to help people with brain injury develop social relationships with others.
Identify outcomes that can be used to measure change in social relationships for people with brain injury.
Discuss and explain the importance of romantic relationships for people with brain injury.
