The current project describes the design of a preliminary instructional taxonomy tool for clinicians to use with individuals who stutter. The Treatment Taxonomy tool grew from an innovative set of systematic procedures to establish a treatment fidelity tracking tool that might facilitate optimal service delivery to clients who stutter. The original, relevant, and contemporary impact of the Treatment Taxonomy will potentially appeal to clinicians managing fluency treatment plans and instructors that include Integrated Approaches to treating fluency disorders in their academic and/or clinical curricula. Three phases of development will be described including (1) review evidence-based treatment programs; (2) organize essential ingredients by treatment phase; (3) identify additional active ingredients by piloting the treatment fidelity tool.
Learning Objectives:
Describe how an instructional taxonomy can be effectively used by clinicians to support clinical decision making
Discuss how a treatment fidelity tool might improve a clinician's approach to treating fluency disorders with integrated approach to treatment
Examine how the Treatment Taxonomy tool might support clients' resilience by reframing the scope and sequence of treatment to better follow clients' interests, cultures, and goals
