2060V - Cultivating Inclusivity in Personnel-Preparation Programs: A Growth Mindset Approach

The recruitment and retention of students from different racial, ethnic and linguistic groups into undergraduate and graduate training programs is one way to diversity of the CSD professions. While many CSD programs actively seek to recruit diverse groups of students, the disparity in numbers persists. One possible reason may be found in the stories of students from underrepresented groups reporting feelings of isolation and disconnect (Abdelaziz, et. al., 2021). In this session, we will provide examples of using growth mindset strategies to promote cultural inclusivity so as to recruit and retain students from underrepresented groups in undergraduate and graduate programs, increasing the diversity of CSD professionals. We will discuss ways to promote a culture of inclusion using growth mindset strategies.
