As Chief Data Science Officer for Janssen R&D, Najat has end-to-end responsibility to reimagine discovery and development of medicines across all Janssen Therapeutic Areas and global functions. She leads a team of 100+ data scientists and data engineers who partner with clinicians, researchers, and external partners to drive deep impact in reimagining discovery and development of medicines end-to-end at Janssen. Najat’s team applies Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Digital Health, and regulatory-grade Real World Evidence to high-impact areas across the Janssen pipeline. Najat shapes the rapidly evolving and robust Data Science ecosystem via partnerships, acquisitions, and equity investments and believes that this is essential to deliver transformational value to patients. Najat co-chairs the Johnson & Johnson Data Science Council, which is driving the accelerated adoption of Data Science across J&J’s sectors (Pharmaceuticals, Medical Devices, and Consumer) and global corporate functions. Najat sits on the board of The Alliance of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (AAIH).
As Global Head of R&D Strategy & Operations, Najat shapes Janssen’s R&D strategy, spanning key pipeline and portfolio decisions to new strategic initiatives to deliver on transformational medicines for patients. She collaborates with Janssen R&D therapeutic and functional heads as well as Commercial and Business Development leaders on a wide variety of cross-functional strategic, portfolio-related, and operational priorities. Najat is a core member of Janssen’s Development Committee and Investment Committee.
Prior to joining Janssen, Najat was a Senior Principal at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) where she was a core member of the Healthcare practice and the Data Science and Digital practice. Najat received her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania and her B.A. in Chemistry with a minor in Economics from Colgate University.
