Dr. Birnbaum, Ph.D, FAES, is currently a Professor in the Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Minnesota and member of University of Minnesota Medical Discovery Team in Addiction. She is Director of Graduate Studies in the Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology Graduate Program and has graduate faculty appointments in the Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Molecular Pharmacology and Therapeutics (MPaT) Graduate Programs. Dr. Birnbaum earned her Ph.D. in Pharmacology (Medical School) and then completed a fellowship in clinical neuropharmacology (College of Pharmacy) at the University of Minnesota. She has a translational research program that studies the pharmacokinetics of medications in special populations. Her work on opioid vaccines includes preclinical and clinical studies for the development and translation of vaccines and antibody-based strategies to counteract opioid use disorders and fatal overdose. Her research has been presented at national and international pharmacy and pharmacology meetings.
