Senior Clinical Pharmacologist

Dr. Rita Humeniuk is currently a Senior Clinical Pharmacologist at Gilead Sciences. She received her Ph.D. from Rutgers University followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). She subsequently served as a Commissioner's Fellow at the FDA. She also holds graduate degrees (M.Sc. and M.Eng) in biotechnology. Her research work has been primarily focused on developing curative and transformative therapies against viruses (COVID-19, Ebola, HIV) and cancer (both solid and hematological malignancies). She has made seminal contributions in bringing drugs to patients through clinical trials, clinical research, and global regulatory submissions. Most recently serving as lead clinical pharmacologist for development of remdesivir for treatment of COVID-19.
She has earned a wealth of awards, including, Women in Cancer Research Award from the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), numerous Scholar-in-Training Awards from AACR/NCI/EORTC and FARE Award for Research Excellence from the National Institutes of Health. Recently, she has also been recognized by Gilead Sciences for her values at work and key contributions. She has authored numerous publications, patents as well as contributed to the clinical development of a broad range of pharmaceutical product. She is a member of ASCPT and an active member of IQ CPLG COVID-19 working group.
