Sarah Ridge, PhD is currently an ORISE policy and regulatory science fellow at the FDA. She completed her PhD at the National University of Ireland researching how the interaction between prostate cancer cells and bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells could promote tumor progression. Her interest in the tumor microenvironment brought her to Duke University where she investigated the invasion of leukemic cells to the central nervous system through a novel neuronal mechanism. This invasion pathway was found to be PI3K-dependent and therefore a promising clinical target. Experience in clinical trial development and design stimulated an interest in regulatory science and policy and for the past year she has been working at the FDA researching and evaluating trends in clinical pharmacology related postmarketing studies within the office of clinical pharmacology.
