Dr. Richard (Rick) Graham is currently Vice President, Clinical Development at Theravance Biopharma where he is leading a global Phase 3 clinical development program. Previously, Rick has served as the Head of Clinical Pharmacology at Theravance Biopharma and Onyx Pharmaceuticals. In addition, Rick has held various appointments at GlaxoSmithKline and Genentech over the years, developing large and small molecules within all major therapeutic areas. While his focus area has been Clinical Pharmacology, Rick has also served as a Project Team Leader for several programs at Genentech and Theravance Biopharma.
Rick received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in biochemistry and biophysics from Iowa State University and his Doctor of Philosophy in molecular pharmaceutics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Among other activities, Rick devotes time to teaching and mentoring graduate students at the University of North Carolina, Eshelman School of Pharmacy. In this capacity he has lectured in the area of drug development with an emphasis on drug metabolism and clinical pharmacology and he currently serves as a graduate student dissertation committee member.
As a member of ASCPT since 2010, Rick has served in leadership roles in the Organ Specific Disease Section and the Biomarkers & Translational Tools Community. He has also been appointed to the ASCPT awards nomination and awards selection task forces. Rick is the Theravance Biopharma representative to the International Consortium for Innovation and Quality in Pharmaceutical Development as a member of the Clinical Pharmacology Leadership Group.
