Monica Simeoni is currently a director in the Clinical Pharmacology/Modeling and Simulation Group, GlaxoSmithKline, Brentford, U.K. She received the Laurea degree in electronic engineering from the University of Padova, Padova, Italy, and the Ph.D. degree in bioengineering from the Politecnico di Milano, Milan, Italy. Before joining GlaxoSmithKline, she was an employee of the University of Pavia, Pavia, Italy, within the Department of Computer Science and Systems Engineering, working on several collaborative projects with the former Pharmacia & Upjohn, Milan (now NMS Group, Milan, Italy). Her areas of expertise are the modeling of drugs acting in the immune-inflammatory system and in the neurological system, anticancer drugs and the modeling of glucose-insulin metabolism. She has experience in non-linear mixed-effect population modelling applied to the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics at clinical and preclinical level, including efficacy and toxicity evaluation. Further areas of interest are disease progression modeling, estimation methods and model based meta-analysis. She has presented her research in these areas at international pharmacometrics and pharmacology meetings and published in peer reviewed journals. She has also been a reviewer for international conferences and journals and is part of the ISOP MBMA SubSIG Core Team.
