Sonya Tang Girdwood, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) with appointments in the Divisions of Hospital Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology. She earned her MD and PhD at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where her thesis was focused on investigating the mechanisms of potential therapeutics for African Sleeping Sickness and malaria. She completed her pediatric residency and chief resident at CCHMC, where she also completed a pediatric hospital medicine fellowship and T32 NICHD Clinical Pharmacology fellowship. She served a two-year term as the national chief fellow for the NICHD Clinical Pharmacology T32 program. Her primary research focus is on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of beta-lactam antibiotics in critically ill children with the aim to build evidence for model-informed precision dosing of antibiotics in pediatric populations. She has been a member of ASCPT since 2017 and currently serves as a member of the Scientific Programming Committee and Career Development Committee.
