Dr. C. Michael Stein is the Dan May Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology and Associate Director of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He received his medical degree from the University of Cape-Town in South Africa and after internship in New Zealand worked as an academic physician in Zimbabwe for ten years. In 1990 he moved to Vanderbilt where his research has focused on understanding interindividual differences in response to drugs, particularly those that affect the cardiovascular system, and the role of inflammation in atherosclerosis, particularly as relates to rheumatic diseases. He is a former editor of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, a member of the Association of American Physicians, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh).
